Uh oh – Steve Wozniak thinks Apple is losing the cool factor – TabTimes

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak remains impressed with the company’s latest devices but worries that the firm is “starting to lose its standing as the coolest company in the technology industry”.

Wozniak formed the Mac and iPad maker back in 1976 with the late Steve Jobs and Ronald Wayne and held the position of vice president before departing in 1987.

‘Woz’ has since worked as chief scientist at Fusion-io Inc, a maker of data storage computers, and while he retains a fondness for Apple products, he is beginning to doubt if Apple is as cool as it has been in the past.

”We used to have these ads, ‘I’m a Mac and I’m a PC’, and the Mac was always the cool guy,” Wozniak told Bloomberg. “And ouch, it’s painful, because we kind of are losing that.”

And in a message that will add further insult to injury for CEO Tim Cook, Wozniak said that Apple products are no longer significantly better than those from Amazon and Google, companies which the former Apple executive said “all have great ideas”.

This isn’t the first time Wozniak has lashed out at Apple in recent times. In October, he called the company “arrogant” before a month later lambasting the firm for “falling a little behind“. He even jibed at Jobs, saying that he didn’t have to “put people down and make them feel demeaned“.

Wozniak does though believe Apple can get out of into current situation by moving away from its closed ecosystem approach by opening up iTunes for Android and Windows Phone users, and said that the rumored iWatch is potentially an exciting product.

Indeed, Wozniak – who says he wears an iPod Nano player on his wrist – says that he would definitely buy the device should it come to market.
